Speaker Bio: Dan Bach
Dan Bach is a lifelong math nut; he is currently a math teacher at Diablo Valley College in California and a textbook author. Dan has a long history of technology in teaching: in 1980-83 he used Commodore PET computers to teach number concepts and "binary animals" at Black Pine Circle Day School; at Mills College, Dan made Taylor curves approach the graph of a function on an Apple II+. On a Mac SE in his DVC trig class, he sang into a microphone and observed the resulting sine waves. This led to "Dan's Math Clinic" multimedia lessons.
In the 1990s Dan used Mathematica to solve and display issues previously impossible by hand, slide rule, or calculator. These led to classroom demos, math conferences, workshops for teachers, lab assignments for students, and e-delivery of homework. In 1997 Dan created his website, www.dansmath.com, offering free math lessons, feature pages, and ongoing problem contest. His podcast since 2005, Dan's Mathcast, is a twice-monthly math variety show.
