How to Craft Your Passion Into a Professional "How To" Video Podcast
Track 1: Audio and Video Creation 101
Instructor: CAT and Eric Susch of Let's Knit2gether
Room: N243
Description: Join us as we discuss how to write, shoot, edit, and shape your "how to" video into a tight professional story that looks and sounds as good as anything on broadcast TV. We've been producing our show Let's Knit2gether for almost two years now and it gets rave reviews from broadcasters and knitters alike. We'll show you what we've been doing this past year, what's worked, the mistakes we've made, and all the challenges along the way. We'll also explore creative storytelling techniques, translating a knitting pattern into a video sequence, creative editing, interviewing techniques, and more. If you want to take your video podcast to the next level, then this session is for you. Niche or broad audience show creators will all find something they can use in their own content during this workshop.
It's 10PM. Do You Know Who's Accessing Your Content? 10 Steps to Unlocking New Media Usage Patterns
Track 2: Attracting and Growing Your Audience
Instructor: Joseph Rozenfeld of Skytide
Room: N246
Description: As use of new media explodes, content providers are increasingly challenged with how to monetize this content. And while the production and delivery of new media has generated significant attention, the ability to understand how all of this content is being used has been largely ignored. But, this understanding is critical to revenue generation programs, because you can't monetize what you don't understand. This presentation will focus on how to uncover the "who, what, where, when and how" of content usage, looking first at the challenges involved in analyzing and reporting and current technologies, including web analytics, business intelligence, search, and log analytics. It will then outline 10 best practices that will guide content providers to the best approach to uncover the content usage patterns to drive revenue. Attendees will leave the session with usable tools and a greater understanding of this critical area of new media delivery.
How to Monetize Your Online Media - Without Monster Traffic
Track 3: The Business of New Media
Instructor: Jim Taszarek of TazMedia
Room: N245
Description: We've been told that you can't make a living on blogs or podcasts and that traffic is the key to income. There's no doubt that metrics have value, but if you're new or super-niched, you needn't worry. You don't need big numbers in order to acquire generous revenues. Even better, you needn't be a "sales" person; knowledge, enthusiasm and passion about your subject are far more valuable. Jim Taszarek has managed newspapers, websites, radio and television stations to ad revenue records and is now helping people see the awesome potential of Online Media Revenue. You'll see models of ad sales originated in commercial and NPR radio that perfectly fit Interactive Media. He'll also show you how to design simple templates for letters, e-mails, phone scripts and your media kit to reach prospects that will gladly pay to be a part of your show or blog. You might not only support your creation, but there's growing evidence that you can make a good living doing what you love.

This session will also cover tips for various camera shoot situations, whether you are filming in an office or out on a busy street, so that you can work efficiently and capture the content correctly. Finally, Alex will talk about multiple-camera shoots and how they can add to the professionalism of your show. If you're ready to take your video to the next level, Alex will guide you in creating the best content you are capable of, regardless of your current experience level.
The Voice Between Your Ears: Using New Media to Help Educators and Students Strive for Excellence.
Track 5: New Media Strategies
Instructor: Jamie Davis of MedicCast Network
Room: N250
Description: In much the same way that athletes use visualization to cement their muscle memory in place, audio and video new media files promote a similar psychomotor response that increases memory retention of skills and learning. In this session for educators and trainers, we'll focus on how to integrate both teacher and student generated content into the instructional environment to accomplish this goal. Instructor generated content includes lecture recordings, assigned listening, and post lecture Q & A sessions. Student generated content includes assigned media projects, recorded study groups, and self recorded study aids. These assignments elevate the students' learning to the highest level possible, as they become knowledgeable enough to assume the role of instructor themselves. The session will also focus on methods of content delivery. This includes traditional RSS feeds and direct website downloads, but also extends to using email newsletters with embedded content, as well as traded flash drives, ipods, and optical media.
Session 10: 11:45 am - 12:45 pm (choose from any of the sessions below)
Garageband '08 and Practical Podcast Plugins: Enhancing Your Podcast
Track 1: Audio and Video Creation 101
Instructor: Ed Vawter of Searching the Internet and Andy J. Williams Affleck of AndyAffleck.com
Room: N243
Description: Garageband '08 has added many new features that greatly enhance its value to podcasters. This includes new compressors and presets, the ability to change effects across a track, automation of level control, more bumpers and stingers and much more. You will learn how to improve your podcast by using these new features and to use additional plugins that work not only in Garageband but in any software (in both MacOS X and Windows) that supports AU or VST plugins. These plugins are either free or fairly inexpensive and are of practical use to any podcaster. For example, Inspector gives you lots of information on sound levels, clipping, headroom, and a spectrum of frequencies going beyond the simple meters within Garageband. Ed and Andy will give you practical tips and ideas to improve your podcast technically and in technique without breaking your wallet.

Track 2: Attracting and Growing Your Audience
Instructor: Marcelo Lewin of Pixel Heads Network

What do you show to your sponsors to convince them that your podcast is worthy of their tight advertising budget? Numbers, numbers, numbers! You need to show potential sponsors, investment groups and anyone that will help you monetize your podcast how popular it really is by showing them a variety of statistics about your podcast. Do you know where your viewers are coming from? What's their demographics? How many are on iTunes? How many are using Google reader? What's your reach? What is reach? What about the videos you upload to MySpace and YouTube? How do you track those? In this session, you will learn about three services which can provide you that information, plus lots more. Marcelo Lewin, "Chief Pixel Head" at PixelHeadsNetwork.com will show you how to use FeedBurner.com, PodTrac.com and TubeMogul.com to get the stats you need for your podcasts. At the end of this workshop you'll have the knowledge you need to approach potential sponsors confidently.
