Speaker Application for the 4th Annual New Media Expo 2008 in Las Vegas
If you would like to be considered as a speaker for the 4th Annual New Media Expo 2008 (August 14-16, 2008) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, please follow the steps below. We are accepting speaker submissions for all tracks.
Submission deadline: The submission deadline has passed. However, cancellations do occur and you are welcome to submit a workshop proposal that we can consider in the event of a speaker cancellation or for future events.
5 things you need to know before submitting your proposal...
1. The New Media Expo conference does not have panels in the paid conference.
The New Media Expo paid conference focuses on instructor-led "how to" workshops taught by one or two person teams. We have found that the attendees get much more out of these types of sessions than they do a traditional panel format. Plenty of other conferences cover "general overview" panel sessions well already. However, the New Media Expo is a "specific action" educational event. As such, your speaker proposal should be developed assuming that you will be teaching a one-hour class on your own. It will require significant preparation on your part.
2. The New Media Expo pays all conference speakers. Here's how:
The New Media Expo will be paying all speakers who are selected to conduct workshops. 20% of the net profits from the conference registrations will be divided equally among all workshops. Another pool of 5% of net profits will be distributed based on how many attendees (paid or free) the speaker brings to the event from their own marketing efforts. Speakers are responsible for their own travel and hotel expenses.
3. In 2007 we received over 600 speaker proposals - we chose 80. In 2008 we'll choose just 55.
Our speaker selection process is very competitive. The more specific you are about what you will be teaching and what the attendees will take away from your session, the better chance you have of being selected to speak at the Expo. We suggest submitting a proposal on whatever subject you feel is your strongest specialty within content creation that will help attendees improve their content.
4. Sales pitches, no matter how subtle, are never allowed.
As a speaker you will need to prepare a presentation that is 100% educational and 0% sales pitch. Your logo or website address may be on your slides and you may have contact information on your final slide. Speakers who deliver even subtle sales pitches risk not being paid their portion of the conference profit pool.
5. We'll need your slides and/or handouts 21 days prior to the Expo
We will be including electronic copies of your slide presentation and/or handouts with the audio and video recordings of your session. We'll need time to make this happen which is why we are requiring all speakers to provide their audio-visual aids three weeks before the event.
And finally (OK, 5.5 things you should know), The New Media Expo conference is not a "pay to play" event. Sponsors and exhibitors have no preferential treatment and are never given speaking opportunities in the paid conference simply because they have sponsored the Expo. Our singular goal for the conference is to deliver the best possible educational event for the attendees. Speakers are chosen because we feel they are going to deliver a great session - not because their company has written a check. We don't even let the sales team and conference team eat lunch together. In fact, neither group even knows the other exists....
